I am Rattan Lal Bhalla s/o Shri Jiwan Mal Bhalla s/o Shri Palo Mal Bhalla s/o Shri Moti Ram Bhalla. I retired from WHO, New Delhi, about 26 years ago. I was born in Village Dhand which is about 8 kms from Village Baserke, the birth place of 3rd Guru Shri Amar Das Bhalla ji. My father was the eldest son of Shri Palo Mal Bhalla. He had two brothers - Shri Dewan Chand Bhalla and Rai Bahadur Dr Khazan Chand Bhalla. Dr Khazan Chand Bhalla was the owner of Anne Villa in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh. He served Malaria Institute, Alipore Road, Delhi, and later joined Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) which institute is very much in news today for COVID-19. My father had five sons - Shri Bua Das Bhalla, Shri Pearey Lal Bhalla, Shri Kedar Nath Bhalla, Shri Madan Lal Bhalla, and myself, Rattan Lal Bhalla. While going through the web I found a feedback of Virendra Bhalla form Canada (Feedback # 288 dt. 03.08.2009). In this feedback, Virendra Bhalla has mentioning about his father Shri Manohar Lal Bhalla, his grandfather Shri Dewan Chand Bhalla and his uncle Rai Bahadur Dr Khazan Chand Bhalla. I am writing to express my gratitude for your work to map the Bhalla clan. It is very impressive what you have accomplished, and I am sure it has been of great help to many to help them trace their ancestry.
My grandmother was the daughter of Tek Chand Kaura 1892-1967 and Savitri Devi Vatsa 1902-1981, and granddaughter of Gulzari Lal Kaura -1941 and Amarnath Vatsa, all of whom are on the tree you built. She married Omprakash Arora, my grandfather, whose family is from Amritsar, and subsequently relocated to Delhi as a result of the partition.
I am not able to view the Bhalla clan tree on your website and eager to provide information for my leg of the clan :)

My father is Inderjit Singh Bhalla I am trying to find out how one adds a name to the Sajras ( a book of every male member of the Bhalla Clan ) pothis as I believe only a chosen few can do this in Goindwal Saab. My father has an elder brother Kewal Bhalla who passed away many years ago , Elder sister Sudesh Bhalla (who passed away a few years ago ) so my father is now the eldest in the family as my DaadJi Smt Prakash Wati Bhalla passed away over 14years ago in Jalandhar.I have one Chacha Ji Ajit Singh Bhalla and 1 bua Ji who is now in the Puri family. I understand that when the male members names were written whoever did this was incorrect and out my ChachaJi twice as Achinth Bhalla and then Ajit Bhalla so my own fathers name is nowhere and I would really like to get this changed if possible . I also have a younger brother Vivek Bhalla and needs to get his name added as my father is going to be 80 this month and would really like to correct our family history . Satish Raj Bhalla s/o Youdh Raj Bhalla was my buddy in Government College, Lahore, a handsome fair looking young boy. He had only one sister. i still had a photograph taken of him. They lived in palacious house on jail road, Lahore. On the northern end of the house they had a replica of waterfall of the Shalimar Garden of Lahore, and in the middle of the garden there was like a TAKHT-POSH was there. In summer Pita jee and Mata Jee would vest in makhmal would sit on the takht with a basket full of motia (jasmine flowers) and watched the water-fall. And the fragrance of motia would spread all-around. I was the admirer of Pita Jee on the reason he started of with humble life and goes to the position of the manager of the National Bank of The Punjab. In the drawing room probably hanged a large photograph in which he was seated in a very humble position. In early 50's the relationship between India and Pakistan became a cordial. people were moving on both sides by thousands and i also went to Dehli for visiting the Holy Shrines. Satish picked me up from a mediocre muslim hotel and took me to his house on Harley Road, probably No:12. And next day he took me to the Gaylords Restaurant in Chandni Chowk. Where we had very delicious purri and channas along with other class-fellows collected by him, where we shared old memories. After that he took me to the Jamia Masjid and the Shrine of Nizam-u-Din Aulia and Poet Ghalib's grave. |

As stated earlier, my Dada ji, Bawa Nanak Chand Bhalla,had five sons. 1. Bawa Diwan Chand Bhalla 2.Bawa Darbara Singh Bhalla,3.Bawa Lal Chand Bhalla,4. Bawa Jagan Nath Bhalla, 5. Bawa Monohar Lal Bhalla. And there were two sisters.My Chach jis and Taya jis have all passed away.
Bawa Divan Chand Bhalla had two sons and one daughter. Sons name were Late Amir Chand Bhalla and Late Dwarka Nath Bhalla.
Bawa Darbara Singh Bhalla had 5 sons and one daughter. Sons were Late Sat pal Bhalla, Late Madan Lal Bhalla, Late Kewal Lal Bhalla. Late Virender Bhalla and shiri Bhushan Bhalla.
Bawa Lal Chand Bhalla had one son and one daughter. Son being me and my sister's name is Narinder Mohini Nayyar.
Bawa Jagan Nath Bhalla of Gurdaspur have two sons and one daughter. Sons are Surinder Kumar Bhalla in puna and Mahesh Kumar Bhalla.
Bawa Manohar Lal Bhalla had 4 Sons and two daughters.Sons name , Late Matinder Bhalla,Mr Raghuvansh Bhalla,Late Mohan Lal Bhalla and Late Vijay Kumar Bhalla.
I have one son and two daughters. Son is Dr. Varun Kumar Bhalla, and two daughters are Dr. Niti Bhalla Carlson, and Jyoti Bhalla Ramsey. |

It is the best effort you have made to bring our family and relatives all together. I am also Bhalla and belong to sri hargobind pur. My dadi told me that we have our home there. My great grand father was late sh. Mohan lal Bhalla. My grand father was late sh. Madho Ram Bhalla and my father's name was late sh. Kewal Krishan Bhalla. Hi great job with you family tree .....just want to say I belong to Bhalla family d/o Gurbax Singh Bhalla grand d/o Bawa Swaroop Singh Bhalla. My brothers and cousins all are registered in goindwal saheb in punjab in a family tree . The ritual is called kesi dahi and its done in goindwal sahab gurudwara and you may find the family tree going all the way back to Guru Amar Das ji there. My wish is to go there and get that chart or take a picture of it. Its amazing thought to belong to Guru's family. |

You have a very good work, Sir, but I have always felt very PROUD of being the youngest son of the Late Hans Raj Bhalla, MSc (Hons) Zoology Professor In Foreman Christian College, Lahore in late 1920's prior to doing LLB and practising as Advocate thereafter in Batala. My grandfather Shri Karam Chand Bhalla (Landlord) owned innumerable large immovable assests in and around Batala. My Tayaji Dr. Daulat Ram Bhalla, himself a Surgeon, had a full fledged Hospital, and his son Pyara Lal Bhalla formed a Trust & donated all his property to construct & run a Charitable School & Hospital. I was born and brought up in Batala and moved to Baroda (Gujarat) India, after my Chemical Engg in 1975.I manufacture Industrial Water Treatment Chemicals.My own brothers & sisters are scattered all over India, and so are my all uncle's families. Hardly any contact - let us see if this site brings some closer! And, Congratulations to You for this great site. |

My name is S. Prabhjap Singh Jutla. I am a part time PhD student at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. I have just seen your website called 'The Bhalla Clan of Sri Hargobindpur.' I am currently trying to verify the identity of Bawa Chhaju Singh and his younger brother Bawa Arjun Singh. Both brothers belonged to the Lahore Arya Samaj at the turn of the twentieth century and edited the English newpapers of both factions of the Samaj. Bawa Chhaju Singh published a book in 1903 entitled The Ten Gurus and their Teachings. According to the Guest Book on your website, under note number 311 dated 25 Nov 2009, a certain G. S. Bhalla claims that he is the son of Garcharan Singh Bhalla and grandson of Bawa Chhaju. Is there any way in which you could either contact G. S. Bhalla on my behalf or put me in touch with G. S. Bhalla directly? In this way, I can find out out if his grandfather and the person that I am researching are one and the same person! I hope that this will not inconvenience you in any way. All I know is that house was located in Bhalloon ki Gali or Muhalla bhalloon ka or Gali bhalloon ki, extras. I don't know the exact street name but Bhalla name was there, for sure. I also remember vaguely that it was in Patti Khaas. My Grand father's name was Late Mul Raj Bhanot who died in 1969 after relocating to New Delhi from Patti and my grand mother's name was Late Chanan Devi Bhanot who died in 1991. Late Sudarshan Kumar Bhanot was my father and my chachaji name is Amir Krishan Bhanot.Prior to my grandmother's death, she sold her ancestral home sometime in 1980s. My grand father's name was Lala Hakim Rai Bhalla(S/O Lala Mela Ram Bhalla and grandson of Lala Harjas Mal Bhalla).
Lala Hakim Rai Bhalla was from Faridkot and died in 1932.
He had five daughters named Karam Devi Khullar, Pritam Devi Khullar, Jagdish wati Marwah, Shakuntala Devi Khanna and Pushpa Deora.
Out of Four sons, two (Pritam Rai and Jagan Rai died young. My Father Shri Jagdish Rai Bhalla and my uncle(Chacha)Shri Rameshwar Rai Bhalla
shifted to Delhi along with my Grand Mother Durga Devi and the rest of the family.
I understand that my grandfather had properties in Qasoor(Now in Pakistan) and in AUR(a village near Jalandhar).
My brother Vinod bhalla, who had migrated to UK, died in 2006/7.
I am also interested in developing further linkages and shall give more details about four sons / families of Lala Harjas Mal Bhalla later.
Shall be very happy to develop this effort further.

Many thanks for starting such a wonderful site about our clan. I am B B Bhalla presently settled at Gurgaon. My great grandfather was Lala Sant Ram Bhalla, school head master. My grandfather was Late Rai Sahib Niranjan Das who worked in defence ministry and settled in Simla. My father Late Shri Bal Raj Bhalla worked with Caltex and was settled at Jullundur. His two sisters namely Uma and Kamala were maried to Shri KhemChand Khillani and Om Prakash Dhir respectively. I have an elder brother Pramod Raj who is at Dwarka in Delhi and a younger sister Mrs. Bharati Gaur, a professor of English at Jullundur. My wife's name is Anita who is from Thapar family of Ludhiana. I have two sons, elder is Dr. Sanjay Bhalla who lives at Gurgaon and has a steel foundry. He has two sons Shubh aged 11 and Shourya aged 9 and half. My younger son Samir lives at Liverpool, UK and runs business of ladies garment retailing. He has two daughters namely OM and EVE. Om is 2 years old and Eve is just 3 months old.
I retired from IBP and now live with my elder son and give consultancy about IT and systems.

Thanks for hosting this pagey ancestry can be traced from 1840 ie from Kumedan Jeewan Singh Bhalla of Vill Harjowal Sri Hargovindpur. he was awarded the order of merit class III equivalent to present Vir chakra in 1857.
his son was Bunga singh in Punjab Police and Army. his grand son was Darbara Singh alos did a short stint in Army. his great grand son and my grand father was bawa Prem Singh Bhalla a lawyer who shifted to Gurdaspur.
My father was Colonel Balbir Singh Bhalla and his siblings are Jagdish Singh Bhalla (Lawyer) Gurdarshan Singh Bhalla, Vimla Nayar and Kamla sareen.
my siblings are Lt Gen Pradeep Bhalla, Dr Jaideep Bhalla & Ritu Khosla.
I would like to hear from anyone who has any contact with our family please.

It is a fact that Bawa Bhalla is a small community of direct descendants of Shri Guru Amar Das Ji. As for me, my grand parents had settled in Ferozpur Punjab. My father, Bawa Sohan Singh Bhalla had three brothers; Amar Singh,Mohinder Singh and Amir Singh. We are three brothers; self, Krishan Pratap Singh and Sant Pratap Singh. We too are from Haryana Bhunga Clan and My Grandfather was Sh. Mohan Lal Bhalla but he joined Indian Railways in Lahore and hence the family moved away and took shape in Lahore and then in Delhi Malviya Nagar after Partitition. I also heard that Bishan Das Bhalla on whose name there is a degree college in Punjab was also related to us.

Before I go any further, I wish to convey my thanks for such a wonderful piece of work.
Our ancestral (great, great grandfather) came from Sri Hargobindpur , Distt. Gurdaspur.
We had number of house and stables based near Vyaas river. I gather, that these houses are still present. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to visit this place. Our family had many of sharab-thekes. My grandfather managed to come to Delhi just before the war, whilst the two brothers were still in the process of winding down their lucrative businesses.
My grandfather settled down in Shahdara, New Delhi and carried on his profession with Indian Railways.
I would love hear, if someone is able to throw more lights on our family.

Dear B.R. Bhallaji, Thanks for launching a such site. My self is also Bhalla, Azad Bhalla s/o Late Sh. Narender Mohan Bhalla s/o Late Sh. Jagdish Nath Bhalla s/o Late Sh. Devraj Bhalla. We belongs to Nakodar but I in my life never went there. My grand-grand father Sh. Devraj Bhalla shifted from Nakodar to Patiala and since then we were living there now I am living in Sonepat (Haryana) and working as a Regional Manager(Finance) for North in Bangalore based Co. Hello!!
I am doing research on Talwar family where I belong to. It was while surfing net, I came across your web site, well congrats for great job done till date. In fact I was looking for some thing similar to record anecdotes, oral history as told from one generation to another etc.
But then could not find proper software, may be I was in hurry, but came across Scribus, which after down loading is not HTML interface and also has some problems, since I am not software engineer.
My sister is married to Bhalla family, her father-in-law was ex-Army Official, her mother -in law passed away last Dec 2009 at there home in Jullandhar.
I know Bhalla family and Talwar families have lot in common etc.

Hi,this is some great stuff!
I am extremely interested in looking for my family's roots and contribute in this research..
My grandfather's name is Ved Prakash Bhalla and he had 3 sons, 1 daughter: Virendar Kumar Bhalla, Narendar Kumar Bhalla, Surinder Kumar Bhalla (my father) and Kanta Khosla.

Gulabrai Bhalla of Shri Hargovindpur.I tried to locate any familiar names but without any success.From Shri Hargovindpur,my Grandfather shifted to Gurdaspur,and then,our family shifted to Pathankot in 1951.
Our Chachaji Sh.Rudder dutt Bhalla recently passed away. My father passed away in 2002.My youngest Chachaji Sh. Hari Dutt Bhalla is staying in Pathankot.

I enjoyed going through your site. You have a lot of information. I can trace my ancestors to the mid 1800's. I have no idea where they originated. I am African American. I know there is white & indian in my roots.
I recently got in touch with some family through Ancestry.com whom I have never met. They are on my grandmothers, mother's side. One of them is also related to me on my grandfathers fathers side. I plan to meet them sometime in 2010.

I am the youngest grandson of Lala Bishandas Bhalla. I am single and am a sculptor by profession. I live in London and I travel extensively to Europe/India to work with tribal people of Bastar (Chattis Garh). I have recently, infact last month visited my birth place in Panjab SRIHARGOBINDPUR. I visited the school, and the stadium which was built by my grandfather Lala Bishandas Bhalla. The school is rare as a sight, it was initially built for girls in the late 18th/early 19th century.
My eldest brother Darshan Bhalla, who is almost 79 years old has done lot of new construction within that school, , keeping the harmony of the original architecture. He regularly visits the village from Mumbai, to carry on working and improving what ever he could in the village, he has built rooms and has a statue of our grand father installed within the ground of the school. He further has many plans to built and to introduce facilities such as library and awards for the top rank students of this beautifully built school in this village.
Although the old architecture of the village is gradually disintegrating, still the village has it's own charm and character. I took some images while I was there with my British friend, A painter by profession. He also loved the village. If any of you are interested please let me know, I will forward the images with time to you.
I am very proud of my brother Darshan Bhalla just like I am very proud of Baldev Bhalla who is putting in lot of effort to get the Bhalla's together to form a link for lot of us. Any other stories are welcome

I am one of the descendents of The Bhalla Family of Sri Hargobindpur.
My father's name is Krishan Singh Bhalla,
Grandfather: Sh Saran Dass Bhalla,
Great Grandfather: Sh Gulab Singh Bhalla.
Saran Dass Bhalla migrated to Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, around 1900, after which we our family has stayed on in Himachal Pradesh.
I am a doctor in the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Himachal Pradesh. I have not been able to find any link to Great Grandfather: Sh Gulab Singh Bhalla. I would like some more information.
Kindly update me regarding our ancestors.

It is really very soothing to see someone working to find its root and putting it on the net.
Only thing I know about my root is my great grand father name is Gendamal Bhalla(He used to live in place call Aaud, Nawa shahar)and my Grand father name is Pyaare lal bhalla.He moved to Ferozpur.

Jai Pal Bhalla and Sanjogta Bhalla had several children as seen in your family tree.
One of the sons, Swami Bhalla is my father and actually goes by the name Ajit Kumar Bhalla.
Ajit Kumar Bhalla is married to Shashi Bhalla and settled in London, UK.
They have 2 sons
Lalit Bhalla (elder, myself) - born 14/12/1975 and now married to Anishka Bhalla and we have a baby boy, Eesh Bhalla born 2nd June 2007. We are settled in Wales, UK.
Sachin Bhalla (younger) - born 22/12/1975 who is at present single and settled in London.

my name is Bawa Gagandeep Singh Bhalla. i am 26 year old indian student in australia. i came to know about ur website on internet as i was researching about my roots. My family is Bawa Bhalla family and our ancestors were from Harghobindpur. But i don't have much info about them. i talked to my dad about this and i came to know we are from Shri Guru Amar Das ji 's family. Bawa Sawan Mal nephew of Shri Guru Amar Das ji were our great great grandfather. my grandfather's dad Bawa Tara Singh Bhalla was from harghobindpur. my grandfather' s name was Bawa Prem Singh . they moved from harghobindpur to beas, from beas to harike, harike to makhu and from makhu to mallanwala khas in ferozpur where my father Bawa Kuljit singh Bhalla has timber merchant business which i think has been our ancestoru business i don't know from when.my grandfather's brother Bawa Gurbaksh Singh 's family is still based in Harghobindpur but i have no info about them.
i have only this much information so far and i will let u know more, whenever i come to know about this . If u have more info regarding my great granfathers please let me know.

Its really good to see your website. And really happy for your prosperous life.
Anyway, I do not know much about my ancestors but what I know about them is that, we are actually from Punjab, India. Specifically Pind SimbalMajara Distt Hoshiyaarpur. We still have a Haveli there.....But I have never been to that place.
Anyway, its good to know about another Bhalla family and also happy to know the birth of our surname i.e., Bhalla. If you have any other information about the same, please do let me know.

My name is kiran kumar bhalla son of late shri rajinder singh bhalla , grand son of late bawa khushal singh bhalla of sri hargobindpur ( gurdasspur ).Unfortunately i don't know much about my roots all i know is we are bawa bhallas from hargobindpur and decendants of guru amardass bhalla . My grand father migrated to lala moosa ( now in pakistan ) as he was posted there as station master. my father migrated from abotabad (pakistan) to dehradun in 1947 as his office (survey of India )shifted there . I was brought-up and educated in dehradun .In 1976 i took -up job in Dubai in a american petroleum company in 1990 i change the job and started working in another american petroleum company in Doha ,State of Qatar. till date i am in Doha with my wife bela ( daughter of late shri narain singh sehgal) and daughter mehak ( x1th standard ) . back home in dehradun i have my mother , one brother and one sister ( married to sanjeev kapur, SBI bombay ).Again i felt proud of the great deeds done by our ancestors all was possible after reading your website.HOpe to get more information about our clan .I have a fadded memory once my RESPECTED tayaJI late shri bahadur singh bhalla mentioned to me that our great grand father's name was S kartar singh bhalla but not sure i will try to confirm from my mother if she could recall.

Very good effort ! Congradulations !, you have done it.
I was for about 9-10 years in Canada, US and I was always trying to contact Bhalla's there to know family roots.
I know few Bhalla's more there, in London, Ontario.
I belong to Patiala and there is a street called Bhalla street.
Right now, I am working as Director for a German aerospace comapny in Bangalore for last one year after coming back from Montreal (where I was working with Bombardier aerospace). Now, we are designing A380, superjumbo plane in Germany and Bangalore.
Please visit us in Bangalore when ever you are in India.
Let us make an effort to have a big conference of Bhalla's, may be in India, where ever possible in some central place and how we can do some good things.

Hi, I visited your website and found it excellent. It shows hard work and diligence involved in creating the family tree. I have few questions and hope I will hear from you soon.
My Mother (Usha Bhalla-Kapur) is also from Bhalla family of Ludhiana. According to my knowledge, my maternal grandfather was a descendent of Sikhism’s third guru, Guru Amar Dar Ji. My grandfather’s name was Sri. Tara Singh Bhalla, who was also a Sikh. I guess my question is, are we all descendants of the same Guru? I do know that my maternal family is originally from Gondwal, Punjab.
Additionally, are we related?
I live with my husband in Miami, Florida. I guess when one is far away from their homeland, roots beckon you and we look for ‘family’.

My name is Rajkiran Bhalla I was born at the Ohri hospital, Jullundur in 1972,my late father is Shadi Lal Bhalla (1935-1998)who was from Jullundur, a cricketer for the State of Punjab,D.A.V college and Ranji Trophy(wicket keeper & batsman). It is indeed pleasure to find your site on Bhalla clan from district Gurdaspur. I am also related to bhalla family as my mother who is from batala is a daughter of Bhallas. Her father was Bawa Kedar Nath Bhalla who had two brothers, Bawa Hardyal Bhalla and ....unknown Bhalla.
Bawa Kedar Nath Bhalla had two sons ( Bawa Raghunath Sahai Bhalla and Sh. Janaki Nandan Bhalla ( both settled in Jabalpur since 1948? ) and three daughters Mrs. Prakash Puri, Mrs. Pushpa Bedi ( my mother) and Mrs Sudarshan Parti)
Bawa Ragunath Sahai Bhalla has three sons ( Pawan Bhalla, Kapil Bhalla, Gautam Bhalla and one daughter Mrs Shakti Malik) Sh . Janaki Nandan Bhalla has one son - Bindusar Bhalla and three daughters.
